2014 NRPS Accomplishments

In recognition of 50 years membership, Robert H. Ballard, AP is presented his 50 year certificate and pin from Commander Rana Weaver, AP. Robert's date of certificate is 23 Feb 1965. We are proud of Robert's 39 merit marks. Thanks for your commitment.  
   
   

 

2013 NRPS Accomplishments

Congratulations to the members of the Nansemond River Power Squadron.

 

For the 2nd time in 3 years, NRPS is recognized for Excellence in Education, the #1 Squadron We completed our 50th year of service this year. We celebrate our charter date of 13 September 1964
Bob Wallace receiving his Educational Proficiency Certificate for 6 Elective Classes taken. Add that to his Navigation Grade and he is now Senior Navigation (SN), our highest recognition  Elective Courses (beyond the Seamanship, Piloting, Advd Piloting, Jr Navigation and Navigation) continue to be popular as shown by 2013 participation
Tom Chapman, SN, receiving his LIFE Member Certificate from Cdr Rana Weaver. 25 years and 25 merit marks - thanks for your commitment, Tom Vessel Safety Check Chairman P/C Larry Rountree receiving honors as #2 in completed VSCs (if we could just have a LAKE in our service area.) 251 checks done by 12 Examiners - great job
Our Website was recognized with the Distinctive Communicator award and our Facebook presence was recognized for activity and increased "likes".

After almost three years after retirement, yesterday the 16th, I finally got to take the Mar-Sue out of the slip under her own power.  It was a successful trip with some questions about an odd vibration above 1600 RPMs. 

I was told after I retired things would not get done in a timely manor, well I will have to say there must be some truth in that statement.

It was a big day for me and a long time coming, the summer of 2001 is the last time the Mar-Sue was under her own power.

Tom Chapman, SN (r)  is recognized by CDR Lin Hanbury, AP with the Charles F. Chapman Award for Excellence in Teaching for 2009. This award recognizes outstanding USPS instructors.

Nansemond River is recognized with the Prince Henry award for educational performance of the squadron, with an emphasis on celestial navigation. Above is the alabaster statue of Prince Henry. It will be on display at the Change-of-Watch on March 13, 2010.

 SEO Lilly Stone, JN, accepts the award from D/C Ralph Bernard, AP as a representative of Portugal looks on.
