Flares for Life - February 28 - "Wet" Success

Note: scroll to bottom for interview from Virginian Pilot online.

The Nansemond River Power Squadron (NRPS)  hosted FLARES FOR LIFE on Saturday, 28 February 2009, 12-4 at Bennett’s Creek Park and Boat Launch off Shoulder’s Hill Road and Hwy 17 in Suffolk.    As anticipated, the event made it possible for the boating public to safely and legally dispose of their old, outdated flares and fire extinguishers while at the same time gain valuable hands-on experience in the safe operation of both. Thanks to more than 30 members of the squadron, the folks who braved the wind and rain had an opportunity to learn hands on how to handle flares. And for many agencies, expired and VERY outdated flares were disposed.
